Slightly Offbeat Romantic Movies

Always late to the party I thought I would share some slightly less obvious romantic film choices in the spirit of all things Valentines... several days after Valentines Day has occurred.

It's fine, some people don't do Valentines Day anyway, perhaps one may be surprised with spontaneous, day of romantic sometime in the future. And when that day comes I will be fully prepare with a list of suitable films to watch.

True Romance - Just your average love story between a comic book store guy and hooker who get married and steal fuck tonnes of cocaine from her pimp and get chased around Hollywood by a lot of cops and gangsters. A very cool film.

Lost In Translation - A faded movie star and a neglected young woman from an unlikely bond when their paths cross in a Tokyo hotel.

A Lot Like Love - OK so I know this has Ashton Kutcher in it and therefore is technically less quirky and cool than the other films in the list, but I just love this movie. Great story about friendship, one that the trailer doesn't do justice. The trailer makes this film look shit in fact! Just trust me on this one. Tale of an unlikely pair who's path keep crossing over seven years.

Silver Linings Playbook - This is just flipping brilliant isn't it. Witty, funny and just lovely. Love sends us all a little crazy, but is the much needed therapy for two trouble neighbours.

Juno - Always held this film in high esteem. What's more romantic than teenage pregnancy and the American adoption system.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - This process is reminding me of films I've not watched in ages and really need to revisit. I'm sure we've all had a relationship we wish we could just erase from our memories.

Be sure to stop by my blog in three weeks time when no doubt I will get round to documenting something about Pancake Day!

New Year. New Me.

New Year, New Me. That old cliché, I say it ironically... honest. But joking apart the new year is a good excuse to have a bit of an over haul and refocus on ones self. We're half way through January so I thought it was about time I made some New Years Resolutions.

Surviving Party Season - Fake It 'til You Make It

A week into December and party season is well and truly upon us. Christmas is a great excuse to catch up with that friend you've not seen for yonks and go out for a few too many bottles of Prosecco, not to mention all the prearranged Christmas parties, and well just sitting in with the heating on full blast chugging down on gallons of red wine and scoffing on blue cheese. All the excessive booze consumption and late nights can make working 9 to 5 a painful chore.

Gift guide - buying for guys

Well Black Friday has whipped everyone into a bit of a frenzy hasn't it?  We all seem to have forgotten we're British - reserved and respectable; choosing instead to adopt a more manic, crazed state where we elbow, shove and shout to get at whatever item is displaying a generous 10% off for one day only.

Eat, sleep, work, repeat.

Dinner - feta, beetroot and walnut salad with balsamic dressing

Have you ever written down everything you've eaten in a day, or even a whole week?  I mean everything, every Haribo ring and every stolen crisp; that cheeky chocolate bar and that one little crumpet. A dietician friend of mine said that taking a note of very thing you consume is one of the most successful tool for managing food intake and subsequently, managing weight.

Packing up for universtiy

What I thought I looked like heading off for university.

It's nine years this September since I packed up my belongings and took the two hour drive over the Pennines to Manchester to start my first year of university, nervous excitement fluttering in my belly.

Life Changing

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it and join the dance.”

The turn of September always marks a time of change for me.  It probably hankers back to days when the turn of the month would mean new shoes, a shiny pencil case and different class at school. But despite those days being long gone I still get the same anxious excitement and nostalgic longing at this time of year.

And so it begins... again!

“I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.”
Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

I just can't seem to shift my compulsion for blogging. Having dabbled with many different blogs on various different subjects I've come back full circle and decided to revisit 'lifestyle' blogging.

Lifestyle, a word to cover all ground.  I can get away with just about anything that takes my fancy. Lifestyle covers habits, attitudes, tastes and standards of an individual which I will share with a hope that someone will at least feign interest in what I have to say.

Blogging has always raised mixed feeling for me, the narcissism of it all conflicts with my humble modesty... I can't be that modest right, I'm still doing it anyway. I'll attempt to maintain some integrity, I'm not here to over share or suggest that I have any sort of wisdom to impart. Hopefully it will all just be a bit of fun and my way to fill my compulsion to write down my thoughts on the internet... oh and I heard it can make you rich!
